SCA Introduction To Coffee Course | Fully Online
A course covering coffee's journey from farm to cup and introduces students to all the key concepts in Speciality Coffee. This is the perfect course if you’re thinking about a career change, or are a coffee enthusiast who’s interested in learning more about all aspects of coffee.
This course is based on the SCA modules of Green Coffee, Sensory, Roasting and Brewing. You will learn about the history of coffee and the way growing, processing and roasting affect flavour of the final cup. We will work on developing our sensory skills and put them to the test in a coffee tasting, learning how professionals identify and describe taste and flavour of different coffees.
We will cover filter brewing and extraction theory, and practise pour-over brewing using the Hario V60 brewer. We finish the course with water essentials. You can attend this course purely for enjoyment, but it has very often been the doorway into a career in coffee – the variety of topics covered makes it a great way to get an overview of the different pathways that you might follow.
We will go through sensory skills and a coffee tasting in your Live Video Session, as well as practical brewing with the V60 pour-over brewer. You will receive a training pack in the post ahead of time, with a sensory kit, a coffee tasting kit and a 2-cup plastic V60, filter papers and coffee to brew with. We will post the Training Pack one week before your course.

Online Course and Live Video Session
The course is divided into two parts: an Online Course and a Live Video Session. You gain access to the Online Course and our Learning Platform upon making your booking. Here we will cover the theory part of this course, through presentations and video demonstrations. We will also introduce you to some of the practical parts of the course, so you come into the Live Video Session prepared and ready.
The Live Video Session will run for two and a half hours. During this session we will complete the practical and interactive elements of the course as a group, under guidance from our trainer.
This course is globally accredited via the Speciality Coffee Association (SCA) and the SCA Exam is taken online upon completing the course. Please read more here if you wish to know more about SCA Certification.

- You will receive a V60 brewer and filter papers ahead of this course
- We strongly recommend using a gram scale (it doesn't need to be fancy, just something your V60 and cup or jug can fit on to)
- A grinder is not necessary for this course as we'll send out pre-ground coffee, but it's a piece of equipment that will improve your home brewing instantly
